Discover Rotterdam The biggest port town of Europe

Discover Rotterdam

MOCE is being held in Rotterdam for the 12th time this year and we have a good reason to organise it there! The city lives on and around water with maritime influences everywhere to be found.

Besides sightseeing, shopping and a vibrant nightlife, the biggest port city of Europe has a lot of maritime highlights and landmarks to offer. Of course we hope to see you in WTC Rotterdam for the Maritime & Offshore Career Event (MOCE) on the 28th of March 2018. However, to make the most of your visit we listed some fun maritime things to do in Rotterdam.

Five minutes away from WTC Rotterdam you'll find the Maritime Museum
This museum is located in the oldest and largest port museum of the Netherlands, the place where world port Rotterdam once was founded. Here you'll discover the enormous influence the maritime industry has on our daily lives.

From the past to the present in just a 10-minute walk
At Willemsplein you can board the Spido for a city Harbour Tour. This 75-minute cruise takes you through the river the Nieuwe Maas and shows you unique views of our wharves, docks, and skyline. You experience a special voyage between seagoing vessels and barges.

Once you're back at Willemsplein, you walk across the Erasmus Bridge to the 'Kop van Zuid'. Do not forget to enjoy the view! Turn right to the Wilhelminapier, where you'll find Hotel New York at the end. Hotel New York is situated in the former head office of the Holland America Line, where thousands of people started their trip across the Atlantic, hoping for a better life in America. Nowadays, Hotel New York is a great place for a meal or an overnight stay in a historic atmosphere.

You can also choose to walk across the Rijnhaven bridge to Katendrecht, where you'll find the Fenix Food Factory. This is an old port warehouse that hosts a culinary market, with products made by local entrepreneurs. Here you can grab a nice meal and enjoy it on the waterfront. From the Fenix Food Factory it is another 15-minute walk to the beautiful SS Rotterdam, former flagship of the Holland America Line. Take a tour, or enjoy a drink and some amazing views on the upper deck. What more do you need?

Not in the mood for an excursion?
Besides being a port city, Rotterdam is also a student city and therefore full of nice bars and restaurants. The Old Harbour (Oude Haven) is only a 10-minute walk away from MOCE. The charming Old Harbour is one of the oldest ports of Rotterdam and a popular nightlife area amongst local students. Here you'll find lots of places for a bite and a drink. If the weather allows it, the waterfront terraces are a great place to sit and enjoy the sun.

For the ultimate maritime experience it is an absolute must to ride a water taxi! These little boats tear over the Maas river and connect many hotspots with each other, such as the Leuvehaven, Veerhaven, SS Rotterdam and Hotel New York. There are several stops scattered throughout the city, where you can step onboard and travel to your next destination within minutes.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
